about

Just in time for her Sónar Bogotá performance, Stefficrown is back with another mixture of personal lyrics, sensual beats and forthright rapping in the form of 'ACT II' EP curated by Basy Tropikalne! After 'Closing Lights' EP - which has been released earlier this year - the Cyprus-born Colombia-based vocalist and a force behind Cali's Trapicali movement strikes again with three original tracks backed by dope remixes from Argentina (Hiedrah's Desdel Barro), Poland/Angola (Lua Preta duo), Bolivia (Sikuri) and Spain (Bigote). Tracks 1 & 2 are produced by Stornelli, track 3 by C.R.A.beats.

The EP opens with 'No Quiero', a very private moment that tells a story about how sometimes you just can get tired of being strong and want to find someone to lean on. 'Jala Jala' shows the stronger side of Steffi and with its aggressive rapping is a dedication to self made gangsterism and the fact that you make your own law and destiny in Colombia. At the same time it's the closest reference to Steffi's Trapicali trap party series that she's promoting with the crew called 3DWorld Kingsz. 'Someteme' in turn talks about an angst of suffering in silence and touches the topic of difficulties of being a commanding woman in Colombia.

'ACT II' is enriched with four valuable remixes. First up is Desdel Barro who - after magnificent EP for Argentina's Hiedrah collective and a remix for Defensa trio - jumps on 'No Quiero' and turns it into a hypnotizing ballad inspired in part by tarraxo sounds. Next is a Polish-Angolan duo Lua Preta who brings the most straightforwardly dancefloor oriented track on the whole release that will surely get you dancing before you know it. Subsequent remix belongs to the one and only Bigote, a true global bass master and head of Caballito netlabel. He presents a smooth version of 'Jala Jala' which perfectly matches the mood of Steffi's voice. The EP is then finished with Sikuri. This Bolivian young gun famously appeared on Deltatron's album this year and now shows his dark and disturbing take on the 'Someteme' track. There's a melody sample that repeats itself throughout the whole rework and it's supposed to give you a feeling of falling into a spiral.

The artwork is once again an effect of work of the wonderful Marta Chojnacka, Polish artist living in Barcelona.
